Family Life in Islam
About Course
We’re living in a time where the very essence of family is being undermined and its important role in laying a foundation of good character disregarded. Islam places strong emphasis on upholding family ties, despite the our own individual challenges, as can be seen in a hadith reported by Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim:
The messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain good relations with kins.”
Part of being a Muslim at its core means to believe in Allah’s oneness and his noble messenger Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who was chosen to teach us Allah’s divine word in the form of the Qur’an. Part of that belief includes honouring one’s parents and family.
Your Lord has commanded that you should worship none but Him, and that you be kind to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say no word that shows impatience with them, and do not be harsh with them, but speak to them respectfully.
